CIRS 2017

The Silvo-pastoral Resource Laboratory of Tabarka Silvo-pastoral Institute organizes its 2nd international symposium dealing with Silvo-Pastoral Resources (CIRS 2). "Challenges of Forest Ecosystems" is the central theme and it encompasses three sub-themes that will be dealing with several Man’s concerns, be it a researcher, a teacher or an ordinary citizen with regard to the ecosystems in question.

In-depth knowledge of the forest environment (current status, history and projection into its future through extensive studies in the ecological, ecophysiological, socio-economic and biodiversity domains) as well as the contribution to providing adequate solutions to problems raised, constitute the main objectives of this meeting.

Better identifying ecological problems at different levels, ranging from the individual, whether animal or vegetable (auto-ecological studies) to the ecosystem, is part of a global strategy that retraces the evolution of the natural environment, trying to know the impacts of various factors, including anthropogenic ones, with a place of choice for the impact of human populations, through their various activities (agricultural, pastoral, energy, etc.), and issuing assumptions of the probable future states of forest ecosystems, using, among other things, modeling and data mining as tools for investigation and projection.

One of the main objectives of the various actors involved in forest environment is the search for remedies for the ecological imbalance of these ecosystems, while trying to best take advantage of them for the human populations and preserve them for future generations. The reduction of the destructive anthropogenic action of the natural environment is certainly no longer possible just by the protection and the safeguard of resources, but rather by the development of the forest ecosystem while taking advantage of its products and  by-products and of the multi-functionality of its space, in particular by ecotourism, while bearing in mind the importance of  its balance.

The priority should, therefore, be given to research and reflection on silvo-pastoral development and to techniques for the management of stands, exploitation, multiplication and breeding in nurseries and reforestation. The need for some species to resettle or flourish further and the quality of forest and pastoral products and by-products to improve, has become, more than, ever a necessity.
